Suitcases for Success Virtual Gala

As Published in The Michigan Chronicle:

On January 24, 2021 from 5:00-6:30 EST, Young People Travel Global edge is hosting their first annual “Suitcases for Success” virtual gala, a silent auction. The event will directly support youth in YPT Global Edge.

Proceeds from the silent auction will sponsor YPT Global Edge youth with the cost of a passport; sponsor the partial or full cost of international travel with the organization; or sponsor their participation in their online Learning Journey program where youth is exposed to international cultures online. Learning Journeys also provide resources, mentors, and teachers that prepare YPT members for international travel but also their future educations and careers.

Additionally, they will award two scholarships, The Shirley Hogue International Scholarship and the Deadra Charles International Scholarship to high school students to assist them with college or with the YPT program.

The event will also honor people who align with and are perfect examples of YPT’s 5-pillar curriculum: Education, Entrepreneurship, Sports, Careers and Cultural Immersion.

Honorees Include:

Education: Lou Fintor, University of Michigan Professor of Public Policy; US
Ambassador-in-Residence

Entrepreneurship: Gwen Jimmere, Founder and CEO of Naturalicious

Sports: Deanna Nolan, retired WNBA player

Careers: Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist
